Ingredients

  • 2 pounds honeycrisp apples
  • 1 pound granny smith apples
  • Zest & juice of 1 orange
  • Zest & juice of ½ a lemon
  • ¼ cup coconut sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Peel, core, and cut the apples in quarters and place in a large baking dish dutch oven. Make sure the dutch oven is not exposed cast iron, this will react with the apples.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients to the baking dish or dutch oven along with ¼ teaspoon of salt. Mix well, cover the baking dish tightly with tin foil, or cover the dutch oven with the lid, and bake in oven for 1.5 hours. Stir the apples after 1 hour.
  3. When ready, stir the apples using a wood spoon and they will break up and turn into smooth sauce. Once cooled, store in fridge for 5 days or freeze.
