I made sloppy joes for Rose for the first time ever and she loved! It’s been ages since I have made them, but I swapped out all the bad ingredients for good ones, and I think the recipe tasted even better.
All you need for these sloppy joes is some 100% grass-fed beef, coconut sugar, no added sugar ketchup, and some good quality buns.
How To Make Sloppy Joe Sandwiches
Start off by browning the100% grass-fed beef in a large pan. i find that Walmart and ALDI have te best prices for grass-fed beef. Remove the cooked beef from the pan and add the onions and peppers.
After 5 minutes, the veggies should soften and you can add the garlic followed by the tomato paste and then put the beef back in the pan.
Instead of using sugary ketchup, I used Primal Kitchen no added sugar ketchup along with coconut sugar. I find you need to add more water than most recipes call for, start with 3/4 cup.
Instead of worchestire sauce, I added tamari soy sauce. The ingredents in worchestire are not the best, and tamari is fermented which adds a great flavor. I like the San-J brand and it’s non-GMO.
Cook the sloppy joe mixture for 15 minutes, adding more water if it gets too thick to quickly. Don’t forget to griddle your buns and you are ready to eat!
What Buns Are Best For Sloppy Joe?
For this sloppy joe recipe I used gluten free hamburger buns from Canyon Bakehouse. If you don;t mind gluten, look for sprouted bun from Ezekiel.
I try to avoid gluten not just because of sensitivity, but because I think all gluten is inflammatory and should be limited when possible.
